Break Free is a movement aimed to inspire individuals to "break free" from the stereotypes society has placed on them. In order to understand how stereotyping institutionalized itself into the world today, To get a better grasp of stereotyping in society, we looked at a college level reading called, Whistling Vivaldi. This reading was about the concept of stereotype threats and how it can change one's life in order to fit in with societies standards. For our project we wanted to create something viral to encourage viewers to "BreakFree" from the misconceptions of societal judgement, history's abuse, and more importantly to BreakFree from the threats of stereotyping. Before creating our projects we participated in a stereotype activity to understand what others experience involving stereotyping, racism, discrimination, etc.

Our Break Free exhibition took place at Queen Bee's and Cultural Center in North Park, San Diego. Our videos were showcased in a separate room for audiences viewing pleasure, as well as, the "That" Cards. I also performed my Spoken Word to the large audience attending. I was blown away by the fact that our hard work affected many of the individuals attending, and by the reactions I received, I could tell they broke free, Although the subjects were very personal, it only helped our movement even further, and it revealed one's character and vulnerability. In order to lighten the mood, the music performances provided a calming atmosphere.
