This part of my digital portfolio will highlight some of the activities or investigations that we do in our math/physics class.
"Lights Out" Challenge (Make a flashlight in a cave)
For this activity we made makeshift flashlights out of "survival materials" like batteries, foil, paper clips, etc. I was assigned with a group of four and we then made the flashlights. It was very challenging because we also had to make the flashlights in the dark as if we were in a dark cave. In the end, we made the flashlights and tested it to see if it worked in pitch black darkness. I learned that you can make flashlights with any materials you have around the house and that it can be used during an emergency situation.
Marshmallow Challenge
For this activity we had to make a free standing tower with a marshmallow on the top. The materials we used were tape, string, a marshmallow and raw spaghetti. I was assigned in a group of three and we had to brainstorm and make the tower and we had eighteen minutes to make the tower. Eventually the time limit was reached and we lost. But what my group and I learned was that it took teamwork to build the tower and not just individuality.
Barbie Bungee Lab
For this activity we had to investigate how many rubber bands it took to get the barbie to reach the floor as close as possible without letting the barbie hit the floor or not make it too short that she doesn't get close to the floor. The materials we used were rubber bands and a barbie. I was assigned in a group of three and we had to investigate how much rubber bands it took so that the barbie could reach the floor as close as possible at HTMMA. Our guess was 20 rubberbands but it was too short of an amount to even get close to the floor. What I learned from the activity was that it took more than a guess to find the correct answer and it takes a formula.
